While some of us couldn’t make it, over 225 did and turned our biggest annual event into another great effort of phlockin’ and fund raisin’ fun! With your generosity, St MSP raised a record $7800 for Ready, Set, Kindergarten! Thanks to everyone, including the Des DesMoines-A PHC, who pitched into help, contributed to the great silent auction items and who participated in the auction to buy these Parrot Head treasures. The Stars on the Water band did their best to keep us in the La Vie Dasante mood, with musical assists by the one and only Jim Hoehn and our Northern Latitude friend, Lic’car Lopez. We had an extraordinary collection of Grand McCaw gifts for the live auction, the likes of which will certainly be available on an on-going basis based upon the support the auction bidders have shown. The room decorations were once again worthy of Parrot Head national competitions! Unbelievable efforts! Thanks to everyone who got their room dressed for the occasion! Rumors of Snake, Everlasting Mooney and Johnny D of takin’ care of the island like it was their own and throwing people in the pool were substantiated by all the photos of the sordid activities! Good to see Frankie and the Bra Limbo back in place too! We are already working on next year’s 10th annual event, set for April 9. Hope to see everyone down island once again.

TULLY MARS DAY AT CANTERBURY PARK
Smarty Pants Jones lost but we didn't! Besides all the personal fortunes won today at Canterbury Park, the St MinneSomePlace Canterbury Crawl winnings hit $150 for Alzheimers! Tully Mars Day at Canterbury was a great afternoon (although a little bit on the vicey side) of playing the ponies and phlocking with our Parrot Head friends.
Over 30 Parrot Heads showed up to try their best to figure out which is more important in betting: the name of the horse or the tip from a gezzer at the betting window. Didn't really matter as the afternoon went by very fast as we hustled to study the races and make out picks. It was just a lot of fun. Thanks to Yimmy for coming in first for us to in our "Canterbury Crawl" race. Rumor is, they couldn't spell "Buffett" so they named the horse "Yimmy".
Dave's handicapping experience helped us all make better bets and learn quite a bit about the details of horse racing. Great to hear about everyone's betting scheme! Maybe next time the triple crown horse will actually come through!
Canterbury set us up with great accommodations. Inside seating with our own monitors (next to the Tiki Bar) and outside cool breezes along the track. Perfect for us no matter if its rain or shine. Great entertainment along with at least 10,000 other spectators. Thanks to Dave Appelbaum and his planning for putting together a great afternoon,
Looking forward to next year's third annual Tully Mars Day at the Races. You can bet we will be there!

Jimmy Buffett live is more than music
Die-hard fans add to concert flavor

Reviewing strictly the music of a show by Jimmy Buffett and his band would be like assessing the house band playing during timeouts at a basketball game. As the band without the game doesn't mean too much, the live music of Jimmy Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band isn't complete without the sloshing party taking place in the stands and in the parking lot . Buffett and his band came to southeastern Wisconsin for a show at Alpine Valley Music Theatre on Saturday night. The performance was sold out. Still, hundreds of "Parrotheads," as Buffett fans are known, ambled about the acres of cars, campers and chartered buses bringing in fans and Parrothead parties, in search of a scalper. There were also some pre- and- post-show revelers in the lot just hanging out, including a guy from Madison who was sporting official Green Bay Packers uniform stretch pants, stocking and logo-emblazoned cap but with only a decisively undersized bra made of souvenir cheesehead material straining to cover his otherwise bare torso. But back to the party inside. After entering the theater turnstiles, one was immediately confronted with an elbow-to-elbow crowd of folks mainly in their 30s and 40s, decked out in shorts, beach-style button-downs and leis loosely dangling from their necks. There were many beers consumed - not to mention margaritas and other tropical concoctions that were for sale. For the most part, Buffett spiritedly served up his usual mix of reflective to party-hearty folk and country-rock-flavored beach-bum ballads. During the introductory acoustic numbers, Buffett played "The Great Filling Station Holdup," with his frequent musical cohort Mac McAnally strumming beside. Other numbers that kept the non-stop overhead volley of beach balls and foam-filled sharks moving included "Carnival World" and "Son of a Son of a Sailor," with the crowd either shouting along the lyrics or reflectively engaged. But a rendition of "Brown Eyed Girl" had just about everyone joining in. The second half of the show continued the mood. hings picked up mid-set when Buffett went into one of his signatures, "Cheeseburger in Paradise," with his mildly lamenting ballad "Cuban Crime of Passion" coming soon after. By the time Buffett went into "Margaritaville," his signature ode to tropical splendor, nearly all the Parrotheads in attendance appeared to have already arrived.
